    Bear box 'SL01'
    (South Lake Trailhead)

    1. SL01 is 8 standard boxes, at about 9800 feet, in the South Lake near Bishop region.

    2. Directions from Steve Eckert, with GPS waypoint, Sep 2001:
      Eight standard boxes near the backpacker parking lot, between the toilet and the South Lake trailhead sign on the lake side of the pavement. A problem bear was killed between here and Bishop Pass in 2001.

    3. Find waypoint SL01 in region waypoints or all waypoints file.
      (NAD83 decimal degrees or NAD27 UTM data suitable for TOPO! software or Waypoint+ software)
        (lat,lon) = (37.1692200, -118.5660000) in decimal degrees, NAD83.
  (zone,east,north) = (11S, 361048.0, 4114595.0) in decimal meters, NAD27.
    4. Next box is SL02: Tyee Lakes Trailhead.

    5. Scroll down for a regional map of the entire South Lake near Bishop region.

    6. Use Google Maps or Google Earth to view this region overlaid with roads and trails on satellite images or maps.
