Blanca & Ellingwood, Classic

4-6 Jul 2003 - Andrew White

Great weather at altitude. Hotter at lower elevations. Used the Como Lake approach (classic). Drove to ~9,000', at about 1 mile in from trailhead. Trek to campsite, at lake, took about 5 hours (2 1/2 on the descent). A lot of mosquitos (no symtoms of West Nile yet). Climbed Blanca first, using standard route. All group members made it by 11:30. All but two members summitted Ellingwood. Descended, with some snowfield glissades, back to camp by 4:00. Excellent conditions, with no wind or rain. A little too much sun, though.
