On Saturday, 22nd May, we found out that the road that enters Lassen Volcanic National Park from the south (Red Bluff) was open for driving all the way up to the Lake Helen parking lot at least.

We found this out only after done the cross country walk from the Sulphur Works of course :-).

The snow was firm enough that snowshoes were not needed on the entire trip. On that day, we did not need crampons either, though the axe helped. A few parts of the trail on the mountain are visible and the snow appears to be melting quickly.
