Correction to Secor

Charlotte Dome

by Tom Donnelly

There is a picture for Charlotte Dome in the second edition of Secor on page 160.

The line drawn on the photo for the Classic South Face Route is way off. The actual route is quite a ways further left, maybe about 120 feet further left. as shown by the marked photo at http://wsphotofews.excite.com/038/2w/5A/J9/ZO26520.jpg http://community.webshots.com/photo/20663358/21199180wyioVQXhrp

This incorrect beta threw us way off route. Wrong beta is worse than no beta. You might argue that there is already enough beta available on this route. I agree. The photo could just be removed (or at least the lines drawn on it). We would have been much better off without the photo.

I have heard there is a little tree near the start, and also there may be a piton on the first pitch.

It may be that the line shown for EB White is wrong in the guidebook photo also. I saw two bolts about 50 yards left of where EB White is shown.
